Responsibilities of Altar Servers include:
- Lighting and extinguishing the altar candles
- Bearing the cross and candles during the entrance procession
- Assisting the priest during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as instructed
In addition to liturgical service, altar serving is also an excellent way for our children to advance in spiritual life centered on the Eucharist and grow in vocational awareness. Servers participate in the Sacred Liturgy with their work, contributing to the Work of the Faithful and the prayer of the Church, and thus, their service helps build up the Body of Christ. In this way, altar serving is a serious ministry that requires commitment, reliability, and a certain amount of dedicated time so it is carried out worthily.

Altar Server Guidelines
Because service at God’s altar is a special privilege, please know that St. Faustina Parish has several policies that Altar Servers must observe. Following these policies shows that you understand how important the ministry of altar server is to Our Lord, his Church, and our parish family.
Attendance Policy
We expect the altar servers of St. Faustina Parish to honor the privilege by being responsible. You will receive your monthly schedule via email. We also post it on the church’s website and the bulletin board inside the Usher’s room. You are responsible for honoring your commitment to the altar server ministry by showing up for all assignments. If you cannot be at the Mass that we have scheduled you for, please let the Altar Server’s Coordinator know as soon as possible to find a replacement.
Promptness Policy
You must be on time for your assignment. Being “on time” means you must be at St. Faustina no later than 15 minutes before the Mass begins. You must check in with the mass captain when you arrive. Otherwise, you may risk the Mass Captain replacing you for that particular Mass.
Dress Code Policy
Please ensure that you always wear appropriate dress when serving Mass. Although you will wear the cassock and surplice over it, your clothes must be appropriate for a church. What should you wear when serving? Or better yet, what should you NOT be wearing?
- No ripped jeans or sweatpants
- No short shorts
- No tank tops, no backless tops, no tops with bare midriffs.
- No flip-flops or shoes without a back strap. (for safety issues)
- Girls should avoid shoes with high heels. (for safety issues)
Please follow the Dress Code carefully. It is embarrassing for everyone when we have to counsel you about your attire.
